HIV/AIDS Prevention In China

Project Goal:To assist Hunan Province (population 65 million) with its HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Program

Project Summary:Health for Humanity’s HIV/AIDS prevention activities were initiated in 2002 in Yueyang Prefecture, Hunan, and in 2003 expanded their scope to the entire Hunan Province. Objectives for the project are to:  increase knowledge and reduce misconceptions about HIV/AIDS among Party workers, political leaders, health professionals, and college and university faculty and students; increase HIV testing mainly via the training of Voluntary Counseling and Testing Center (VCT) developers and staff;   reduce HIV-positive infants and children and develop services for HIV-positive mothers; increase understanding of the value of modern mental health services, provide mental health program development guidance and establish counseling services for the HIV/AIDS-infected and affected; and develop and implement HIV/AIDS education programs for youth and young adults.

These activities are part of a larger effort on the part of the Hunan Provincial Government to address HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and treatment.
