Dr. Val Abbassi received his MD from Tehran University Medical School and completed his residency in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Abbassi is Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is also on the staff of Georgetown University Hospital, Fairfax Hospital, and Virginia Hospital Center. Dr. Abbassi is a long-serving member of Health for Humanity where he has been heavily involved with the Washington D.C. network. Currently, he is a member of VSOC, the Volunteer Service and Opportunities Committee, and the Health for Humanity Board.
Presentation Topic: Community Prevention of Childhood Obesity and Diabetes
Dr. Natalie Auger received her Master of Science in epidemiology and biostatistics and MD from McGill University. Dr. Auger is an epidemiologist at the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec and an Adjunct Professor in the field of Social and Preventative Medicine at the University of Montreal. She is a Health for Humanity supporter.
Presentation Topic: An Emerging Paradigm in Community Medicine: The Social Determinants of Health
Dr. Janice Cockrell received her MD from Northwestern University Medical School and is currently the Medical Director of Pediatric Rehabilitation at Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Cockrell is Health for Humanity’s project champion for its Chengdu, China Pediatrics Rehabilitation Project.

Dr. Kambeze Etemad received his MD from Brown University School of Medicine and currently is the attending psychiatrist at the Kirkbride Center in Philadelphia. He is also a consultant, researcher, and trainer for Children and War: Impact, Protection and Rehabilitation. Dr. Etemad is a Health for Humanity supporter.

Dr. May Khadem received her MD from Rush University and her Master of Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Khadem, a board-certified ophthalmologist, works with the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Northwestern University. She is a founding member of Health for Humanity and currently serves as the organization’s Executive Director.
Presentation Topic: The Role of Values-Based Leadership in Building Sustainable Capacity in Local Communities (Part 1)
Dr. Elham Kourosh received her Doctorate of Public Health from North Texas Health Science Center and her Master of Science in Nutritional Sciences from Texas Women’s University. Dr. Kourosh is a Health for Humanity supporter.
Presentation Topic: Evaluation of the Sustainability of a Community Based Health Promotion Project
Dr. Kong Oh received his MD from the University of Singapore and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania. He currently is on the staff of Western Reserve Care System and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Dr. Oh also teaches as a Clinical Associate Professor at Northeastern Ohio University’s College of Medicine. He has been an active member of Health for Humanity for several years and is a past Board member. Dr. Oh has made several trips on behalf of the organization, and is co-leader of the HH Ohio Network.

Ms. Kiran Patel received her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with a minor in Mass Communications from the University of Florida. She will be attending Emory University in the fall in pursuit of a Master of Public Health degree in Health Education. Kiran is the 2007-2008 Health for Humanity Year of Service Intern.
Presentation Topic: Understanding and Serving with HH's Volunteer Health Promotion Projects in the US
Mr. Grant Peirce was awarded a Master of Science and is currently pursuing a PhD in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a private consultant who specializes in leadership and organization development. Mr. Peirce recently began working with Health for Humanity as a moral leadership consultant. He traveled to Mongolia in January 2008 and will return in June to offer courses on values-based leadership.

Mr. Robert Phillips received his Master of Arts in Comparative Political Systems and International Relations from Stanford University. He is currently the Executive Director of St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic in Nogales, Arizona. Mr. Phillips joined the Health for Humanity Board in December 2007.

Ms. Marie Taherzadeh received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in International Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Ms. Taherzadeh is Health for Humanity’s International Programs Officer where she serves as a liaison between HH volunteers and its international partners.
